Johnstones Paint Trophy Final

March 23, 2010

The 2010 Johnstone’s Paint Trophy Final is between the Carlisle United vs Southampton and will be held at Wembley Stadium this coming Sunday, March 28, 2010.

The Johnstone’s Paint Trophy is fought for each year by the teams from the Football League: Leagues 1 and 2.

The Carlisle United landed their spot in the contest after beating Leeds United 6 – 5 for the Northern Section Area Final title. The Southampton Saints, meanwhile, landed their spot in the event by beating MK Dons 3 – 1 over the course of a two-legged final for the Southern Section Area.

Last year’s Johnstone’s Paint Trophy champions were Scunthorpe United, beating Luton Town in one of the most thrilling finals this contest has seen at the new Wembley Stadium.

The Johnstone’s Paint Trophy Sponsorship started in 2006 and in 2008 announced an extension to their sponsorship of the coveted annual Football League championship event for at least 3 more years.

The Coca Cola Football League has events for Leagues 1 and 2 running all throughout the months of March and April 2010 and into May 2010.

Meanwhile the key fixture dates for the 2010/2011 Football League season are set to be announced on Thursday June 17 and the season itself will kick-off on Saturday August 7. Then August 9 sees the Carling Cup starting up and 3 weeks after that, on August 30, the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy season Round 1 will start all over again. But first we need a 2009/2010 champion, and that’s either going to be Carlisle United or the Southampton Saints.
