The Chicago Blackhawks have not be in the running for the Stanley Cup since they lost to Pittsburgh in 1992 and haven’t brought the Stanley Cup home since 1961. The Flyers have not taken the Stanley Cup since their two year run in 1974-75, and they also have lost the Stanley Cup to Detroit in 1996. So both of the these teams are after what has been unobtainable for them for years.

The first game of this series was played Saturday May 29th 2010 in Chicago, and the Chicago Blackhawks took the first game with a score of 6 to 5. It was an action packed game with the Philadelphia Flyers taking an early first period lead of 3 to 2. But the Chicago Blackhawks answered back in the second period with three goals to the Philadelphia Flyers’ 2, which tied this game 1 up: 5 to 5. But then Tomas Kopecky, who was in for an injured player, scored the game winning goal for the Chicago Blackhawks in the third period to make the final score of game one 6 to 5 Blackhawks.

These two teams will face off again on Monday May 31st in Chicago for game two, then on to Philadelphia on June 2nd and 4th 2010 for games three and four.

Tiger Woods, whose attendance was questionable for the 2010 U.S. Open, will be there at Pebble Beach even though this champion who won the U.S. Open in 2008 by a record 15 strokes and 12 under par is currently not up to 100 percent due to a neck injury he suffered earlier this year. Former Atlanta Braves pitcher John Smoltz failed to qualify for the 2010 U.S. Open. He was competing for one of nine spots of the 111 local qualifiers, which were held all across America in early May. Last year’s U.S. Open winner was Lucas Glover of South Carolina.

Groupings and Starting Times for the 2010 U.S. Open have not yet been released, and will not be made available until Thursday, June 17 when all the action begins.

The Golf Links at Pebble Beach will be 7,040 yards for a par 35-36—71 course, 194 more yards than the 2000 U.S. Open set up at Pebble Beach. This year saw the second most entries into the event in U.S. Open history, with 9.052 entries as compared to the first-most last year, at 9,086.

The USGA designed the US Open to be the most rigorous (but fair) test of golfer’s abilities, and we shall see who rises to the top this year shortly.

The biggest upset is the defeat of seeded #2 Venus Williams of the U.S. by the 19th seeded Nadia Petrova from Russia. This is the first time that Petrova has defeated Williams in their four matches against each other. Venus Williams was looking for her first win at the French Open, ever since being defeated by her own sister Serena Williams in the final round in 2002. The Williams sisters are still ranked #1 in the pairs division in which they will most likely advance to the final rounds.

Justine Henin will face off on the clay courts against Sam Stosur for a place in the quarterfinals. Last year’s 2009 French Open winner Svetlana Kuznetsova’s reign is now over. The champion was defeated in the third round by Maria Kirilenko.

Roger Federer, the reigning champ, will advance to the quarterfinals and will go up against Robin Soderling. Federer and Soderling did battle last year in the finals with Roger Federer winning the French Open 2009. This quarterfinal game is going to be a rematch of last year, so be sure not to miss it. Andy Murray of England, ranked 4th, was defeated by Tomas Berdych from the Czech Republic. This will be the first time Berdych has made it so far at the French Open.

Dan Wheldon from England, who was the 2005 Indy 500 winner, finished 2nd, followed closely behind by Marco Andretti for 3rd, Lloyd Dixon from England taking 4th, Scott Dixon, the 2008 Indy 500 winner, finishing in 5th , and the Go Daddy girl Danica Patrick climbing from 23rd to finish 6th. Rounding out the top 10 is Justin Wilson, who came in 7th, with Will Power in 8th. Then the Pole setter and three-time Indy 500 winner Heilo Castroneves had his hopes for a record 4th win dashed by a brutal mistake, when Heilo stalled the car leaving the pits, causing him to pick up 9th. And Alex Tagliani took 10th.

Meanwhile, driver Mike Conway was airlifted to a nearby hospital with a broken leg, expected to make full recovery.

On a lighter note Driver Thomas Scheckter was issued a speeding ticket on Friday. Scheckter was apparently driving in speeds in excess of 100 mph. What a need for speed indeed. Hasn’t anyone told these guys to leave their racing for the tracks?

The ranked # 5 Duke landed its spot winning against ranked #1 team Virginia in a 14 to 13 victory – due in part to Duke’s Max Quinzani’s shot on goal with 12 seconds left in the game. This loss for Virginia is not shocking for Virginians and fans. The Virginia team has had its problems this year when midfielder George Huguely was arrested for the murder of Yeardley Love who played for the women’s lacrosse team. The unseeded Notre Dame, meanwhile won its spot by defeating #7 ranked Cornell.

These two extremely different teams – the Blue Devils and Fighting Irish – will pair off starting Monday in the championship finals. Duke can average about 13 or more goals a game and are second best in the division 1. Notre Dame has the toughest second best defense and only have allowed about 7 goals per game. Notre Dame has also only let in 17 goals in three tournament games.

This should be an exciting NCAA Lacrosse tournament indeed, with these two very unique and disparate talents on the field. Whatever the outcome, there will be a new winner on the record books for the first time in a couple of decades, and neither of these particular teams has taken this tournament since the early 70’s.

Teams from all over the world have made it to the 2010 FIFA World Cup. These teams will play heated matches all over South Africa from Cape Town to Pretoria. All the action starts out on June 11th 2010 when South Africa battles Mexico in Johannesburg and Uruguay goes at it with France in Cape Town.

The FIFA World Cup will have thirty-two teams all going for the big dream. France will be one of the first teams to take the field and are looking to recapture the cup that they haven’t had since 1998. France is hoping to at least score a goal this time, unlike in 2002 . Uruguay will be there to try and stop France’s advancement in the series. Uruguay is ranked eighth in the world and has not had a cup since 1990. South Africa, who won the World Cup in 2002, is hoping to do it again even after not qualifying in 2006. South Africa will have to face off against Mexico. Mexico has not won a FIFA World Cup, so they are out looking to make 2010 the year.

As all the action kicks off with the first match-ups all the way to the culminating World Cup Final, we’re all sure to be in store for some high excitement, and maybe even a little drama.

This Chicago Blackhawks win is due to the player they call Big Buff, Dustin Byfuglien. Dave Bolland also scored a goal to help in the Chicago Blackhawks 4-2 win over the San Jose Sharks. Dustin Byfuglien’s goal was the second time this player has won the game and this time won the Conference Series for his team the Blackhawks. When Chicago’s Versteeg scored the empty net goal in the last seconds of the game the fans in red went wild.

The Chicago Blackhawks goalie Antti Niemi had an easy and great day with only 16 shots on goal, compared to the San Jose Sharks Goalie Evgeni Nabokov who was busy stopping 23 out of 26 shots. The Sharks had a chance to regain the lead in the final period but a long shot from Devin Setoquchi was deflected from teammate Joe Thorton’s stick and hit the crossbar of the goal. As a side note, Duncan Keith is a true hockey player for taking a puck to the face and losing seven teeth while still maintaining the record of longest player on the ice.

The Chicago Blackhawks have swept this conference with a perfect 4-0 record. The Blackhawks will be battling either the Philadelphia Flyers or the Montreal Canadians as those two teams are set to do battle this week to decide which one will go up against the Blackhawks in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Some of this year’s Coca Cola 600 pre-game events are designed to honor our Armed Forces. Veterans from WW II, Vietnam, the Korean war, and modern day wars such as Desert Storm, Operation Enduring Freedom, and Iraqi Freedom along with all of our active serving members of the Armed Forces.

All of the activities kick off at 3:50 pm EST with the Let Freedom Race Coca Cola 600 per race show, featuring a parade of military vehicles and videos from the History Channel about World War II, the Korean war, and the Vietnam War. There will be a giant C-47 transport plane, the B-17 bomber like the Memphis Belle, an A1-H Skyraider, and a T-28 Trojan aircraft all flying over the heads of all the fans.

In past years, drivers like Jeff Gordon, Kasey Khane, and Jimmie Johnson have all had their spot in the winner’s circle. One of this year’s favorites is Kurt Busch. With last week’s win in the All-Star Race on the same track, he just might do it again. Jimmie Johnson, who has won this race three times in a row, is also a popular pick. But don’t count out last week’s 2nd place winner Martin Truex Jr. who is out to take 1st in the Coca Cola 600. Jeff Gordon, Carl Edwards, Mark Martin, and David Reutimann meanwhile all have four things in common: they all have wins on this track, they all had wrecks in last week’s race, and they are all out to finish and finish strong in this Memorial Day Weekend’s Coca Cola 600.

The Philadelphia Flyers took a 3 to1 victory over the Montreal Canadians in last Saturday night’s game 4 of the Eastern Conference Series. Philadelphia is now only one game away from the Stanley Cup finals.

The Flyers’ right wing Claude Giroux scored twice in last night’s game, Ville Leino scored the other goal for the 3 to 0 score against the Canadians. Goaltender Michael Lieghton for the Philadelphia Flyers was on top of his game with 17 saves and his third shut out of the series. Lieghton has become the first goaltender in Flyers history to have three shut outs in a playoff series.

Montreal gave it all they could but they never seemed to get it together. With only one shot on goal in the second period the Flyers dominated the game. Montreal Canadians have to win Monday night May 24th 2010 and force a game six to be play on Wednesday May 26th 2010 back in Montreal or the season is all over for them. The Canadians are 5-0 this post season, and have never before been blanked three times.

If Philadelphia can win game 5 at the Wachovia Center in Philly on Monday May 24th 2010 they will seal the deal and be on their way to the Stanley Cup Playoffs a place they haven’t been since 1997. This is going to be hard to do with the Canadians trying to push a game 5.

Andretti Auto sport team has five cars in this years Indy 500. John Andretti will be making a appearance, along with Ryan Hunter Reay, Go Daddy Girl Danica Patrick, Michael son Marco Andretti.

Ryan Briscoe of the Penske team says that winning Indy is a top 1 goal of his for the. Target Chip Ganassi Racing has one of the strongest showings for the Indy 500. Dario Franchitti and Scott Dixon, between them the Indy 500 winners for the past 3 years. Brazilian Helio Castroneves has three Indy 500 wins for and is driving for his fourth. He could join a select group that includes only Al Unser, and A.J. Foyt, Rick Mears. Tony Kanana who has led the Indy 500 for six years but has never won. Kanana will be there to see if he can finally win the Indy 500.

Will Power had two wins in the early part of the year and placed 5th at his first Indy 500 race last year will be there to see he can do it this time. A.J. Foyt’s car will be driven by Vito Meira who suffered a broken back in last years Indy 500.

There could be history made at this years Indy 500 with the three women drivers who made history in 2009 for being the first women competing in the race. Now, in their second time in the Indy 500, if Sarah Fisher, Milka Duno, or Danica Patrick wins, she would be the first female Indy 500 champion ever. And with Danica’s impressive third place finish in last years Indy 500 she may be the driver to watch and make Indy history.
