British National Squash Championship

February 7, 2010

The British National Squash Championship is taking place in Manchester, England’s National Squash Centre: SportCity from February 9 – 14, 2010.

Becoming a familiar staple of this annual event, this year sees third-ranking Jenny Duncalf of Yorkshire and fifth-ranking Alison Waters of London set to meet in the British National Squash Championship Women’s Final for the 3rd time in as many years. Seems these two are getting quite used to playing against each other in this high pressure match, and a smart bettor might take a gander at their past three championship matches to formulate a bet around.

Duncalf won two of those three championship matches, in 2007 and 2009, placing her at number 2 in the world last December after twice successively beating Nicol David, ranked first in the world since mid 2006.

Waters, 2008’s winner, meanwhile, will mark this as her 5th appearance in the women’s final since 2005. Her world ranking this month of 5th best women’s tennis player is her personal career best. And she enters the event fresh off a WISPA World Tour win this year already.

In the men’s final meanwhile, last year’s two leading Brits will square off once again, those being of course, Nick Matthew and James Willstrop. The historic long-standing rivalry between these two Yorkshire men should make this the highlight of the British National Squash Finals for 2010.

Last year’s title went to Matthew, but just this past week, Willstrop had an unbelievable in at the Tournament of Champions, beating three number 1 world players from Egypt in a row.
